The story of Jack Butcher

From working for agencies, to being in charge of his own start up, Jack Butcher's creative journey is defined by a necessity for self expression and creative freedom. Butcher's background is in design, a field which he encountered for the first time at the age of 16 when he worked at his cousin's design studio. Soon after, though, his creative pursuits took the backseat, until he began working for a commercial printers company which printed a design magazine he loved, igniting his love for the field once again.

Newly inspired, Butcher graduated from design school in 2010 and moved to New York on a whim, where he began looking for an internship in design. For the following eight years he went from campaigns to small branding jobs to working for agencies - from big to small companies his career was constellated by a variety of different jobs. Finally, aspiring to be in charge of his own creative endeavours, he established his own agency in 2018, and while this allowed him to work with his dream clients he quickly realised that he still wasn't putting out work he was inspired by.

“The less your write, the more you say.”

In 2021, Butcher got introduced to the world of crypto art, where he began playing around with 1/1s and creating his own work. Butcher's early designs center around visual storytelling through the use of minimalistic black and white graphics and over the years, inspired by graphic designers such as Josef Müller-Brockmann and Dieter Rams, he developed a distinctive style that combines minimalism, geometry, and color theory. He explores themes of individuality, self-discovery, and the pursuit of meaning.

This newly found creative drive led to Butcher's most pivotal moment of his career: the creation of Visualize Value. The company, which started off as an agency business, now serves as an educational and media platform. As Butcher mentions, through VV he sought to “demonstrate the type of work (he) wanted to do for other people” and showcase his skillset into the world. Visualize Value has always been, and hopes to remain, about helping people pursue clearer thinking, try new things, and use the internet to build a network.

The outpouring of support from his growing audience validated the need for his unique approach to visual storytelling. As the demand for his work exceeded his ability to supply it through consulting, he began to develop products that embodied his design principles, such as the "How to Visualize Value" training. In understanding the importance of “capturing attention organically”, the platform now comprises a wide portfolio of courses aimed at tackling a series of themes surrounding creative clarity, storytelling, and personal branding. Butcher himself highlights how he’s been able to continue pursuing this project and keep himself inspired by: “reading, scrolling around, walking, thinking, sketching, and having a very specific canvas (black and white graphics) helps filter ideas into actual deliverables”.
